SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) is a composite material commonly used for compression molding, with excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and good electrical properties. It is mainly composed of resin, glass fiber and filler, and is suitable for manufacturing products with complex shapes. SMC is widely used in the following industries:

1. Automotive industry

- Body panels, bumpers, hoods, roofs, doors, trunk lids and other parts, because of its light weight and high strength, it helps to reduce the weight of the car and improve fuel efficiency.

2. Electrical industry

- Electrical housings, electrical insulators, high-voltage switchgear, meter boxes, etc. SMC's excellent electrical properties and fire resistance make it an important material in the manufacture of electrical equipment.

3. Construction industry

· Building decorative panels, floor tiles, sanitary ware (such as bathtubs, wash basins), water tanks and pipes, etc. The corrosion resistance and strength of SMC give it a long service life in construction applications.

4. Railway and rail transit

·Inside and outside components of carriages, such as seats, wall panels, luggage racks, etc., SMC is lightweight, fireproof and highly durable, and is suitable for high-speed trains and subway vehicles.

5. Home appliance industry

·The outer shell and internal components of large home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators. The molding ability of SMC materials makes it suitable for the production of complex-shaped parts.

Next step:

After production, SMC materials usually enter the **Compression Molding** process, which is the main subsequent step. The specific process is as follows:

1. Preheating: SMC sheets may be preheated before mold molding to improve the fluidity of the material.

2. Compression molding: The prefabricated SMC sheet is placed in a heated mold, and pressure is used to make it flow and fill the mold cavity to form the desired component shape.

3. Cooling and demolding: After molding, it is cooled and demolded to obtain the final product.

The molded product may require further surface treatment or machining to meet the final use requirements.

In the SMC (sheet molding compound) and compression molding process, organic peroxides such as tert-butyl peroxybenzoate (TBPB) and 1,1-di-(tert-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane (TMCH) are usually used as curing agents to promote the curing reaction of the resin. Peroxides produce free radicals by decomposition, thereby initiating the cross-linking curing reaction of polyester resins, which is a key step in SMC production.
