Inorganic is represented by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and sodium peroxide (Na2O2). Organic peroxides are one or two hydrogen atoms of hydrogen peroxide replaced by organic groups, such as benzoyl peroxide [(C6H5CO)2O2], most of which are low volatile strong oxidants, which can cause explosions in the case of reducing agents or heat, and can react with organic matter and water, so the chemistry is unstable. The main hazard in production is splashing into the eyes. Skin contact causes primary irritation and allergic reaction.
Ethyl tert-butyl peroxalate [C2H5O(CO)2·O2·C(CH3)3] was inhaled at saturation concentration (7.77mg/m3) for 6 hours, 15 times, and no signs of intoxication. Anatomical examination showed no abnormality.
Alpha-hydroperoxide cumene [C6H5C(CH3)2·O·OH] was inhaled at saturation concentration (31.1mg/m3) for 4 hours, 3 times, and half of the rats died, tremor, anesthesia, and lung and kidney congestion were found at autopsy. 19.6mg/m3, 5 hours, 7 times, salivation, dyspnea, weight loss, anatomical examination showed emphysema and thickening of the alveolar wall. 9.95mg/m3, 41/2 hours, 12 times, salivation, nasal irritation, anatomical examination no abnormal.
Dipropionyl peroxide [(C2H5CO·O)2], inhaled 597mg/m3, 5 hours, 2 times, eye irritation, dyspnea, weight loss, 25% death. 179mg/m3, 5 hours, 4 times, nasal irritation, no anatomical abnormalities.
Tert-butyl tervalonate peroxide [(CH3)3C·CO·O2·C(CH3)3] was inhaled by rats at 1,424 mg/m3 for 5 hours, causing nasal irritation, dyspnea and no anatomical abnormalities.
Di-3-methylbutyl peroxydicarbonate [(C5H11OCOO)2] was inhaled by rats at saturation concentration (18.2mg/m3) for 6 hours, twice, with minor irritation and no anatomical abnormalities. 44mg/m3 for 5 hours, 8 times, irritation, dyspnea, anatomical findings of alveolar wall thickening. 140mg/m34 hours, 3 times, irritation, dyspnea, anatomical findings of alveolar wall thickening.
Peracetic acid [(CH3CO)2O2] and peroxybenzoyl [(C6H5CO)2·O2] have a strong irritating effect on skin and mucous membranes.
Peroxides can be divided into inorganic and organic categories
