DHBP 101, chemical name 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane, molecular formula C16H34O4, is a low volatility, slightly yellow transparent liquid, and is a dialkyl organic peroxide. DHBP 101 is commonly used as a polymerization initiator, with a self accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT) of 80 ℃. It can be diluted with hexane, odorless mineral oil, isododecane, etc. Alternatively, it can be diluted with the customer's solvent. Inorganic compounds or polypropylene powder can also be used for desensitization.

The main application fields of DHBP 101 (this article is the first part) and its introduction are as follows:

1, Crosslinked polyethylene industry

Crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) is mainly divided into four types based on different crosslinking mechanisms: peroxide crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-a), silane crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-b), irradiation crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-c), and azo crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-d). The first two are mainly used in the field of plastic pipes, with the consumption of PEX-a pipes accounting for about 55% of the total consumption of PEX pipes. Europe and America are the world's largest regions for the production and consumption of PE (including PEX) pipes, with major PE pipe manufacturers including Europe in Belgium, BP in the UK, Chevron Phillips in the United States, and Elenac in Germany. The main petrochemical enterprises producing PE pipe resin in China include Shanghai Petrochemical, Yanshan Petrochemical, Qilu Petrochemical, and Dushanzi Petrochemical.

The main application varieties in peroxide crosslinked polyethylene are dialkyl peroxides, with 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane (also known as DHBP 101) and Di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) accounting for approximately 55% and 30% of the total demand, respectively. The addition ratio range of the two is generally between 0.5% and 2%.

2, Polypropylene fiber industry

The degradation of polypropylene by organic peroxides is mainly used in the production of polypropylene fibers (commonly known as polypropylene fibers). Polypropylene fibers have characteristics such as acid and alkali resistance, light weight, high breaking strength, wear resistance, non hygroscopicity, and low thermal conductivity, and are widely used as industrial fabrics, filter materials, covering materials, and sanitary materials. At present, major polypropylene companies around the world are committed to the research and development of new production processes and catalysts in order to improve the competitiveness of their products in the market. With the continuous development of polypropylene production technology, they will provide more diverse ways to choose raw materials for polypropylene, further expanding the application field of polypropylene.

The organic peroxides used in the polypropylene fiber industry are mainly dialkyl peroxides, with a general addition ratio of 0.05-0.2%. Among them, 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane (also known as DHBP 101) accounts for 70%, and Di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) accounts for 20%.https://www.kz-opchem.com/organic-peroxides/dhbp-cas-78-63-7-2-5-dimethyl-2-5-di-tert.html
