Oxalyl chloride is a diacyl chloride derived from oxalic acid. It is a colorless fuming liquid with pungent smell, which can be prepared by the reaction of oxalic acid and Phosphorus pentachloride. It can decompose violently when exposed to water and ethanol. It is corrosive and tear inducing.Its CAS number is 79-37-8.
Oxalyl chloride is also known as Oxalyl dichlorideand Ethanedioyl dichloride.It is mainly used as a reagent for organic synthesis.
