Cumene hydroperoxide is a colorless to light yellow liquid.Its CAS number is 80-15-9.It is a commonly used oxidant. It is usually a solution containing 80% cumene.It can explode when mixed with reducing agents, sulfur, phosphorus, etc. It will explode when heated or impacted.

Cumene hydroperoxide is also known as CHP.It is often used for the epoxidation reaction of olefins, and can also be used for the oxidation of thioethers to sulfoxides or sulfones. Under certain conditions, electron rich aromatic compounds such as furan can also be oxidized by it.CHP has good applications in asymmetric oxidation reactions. In the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation reaction, using it as an oxidant can yield epoxidation products with good yield and stereoselectivity. Compared with TBHP, CHP sometimes yields better results.

CHP is used as an initiator for arsenic removal from ethylene cracking gasoline and ABS grafting polymerization.It is also used as a curing agent for unsaturated resins.
